That one can be tricky, depending on what you like to do….
I have seen ladies go to a cruise-in’s and make their husbands lives “living hell“. They gripe about the weather, they gripe about the chairs (or the lack of) and they just gripe period. What is the point in going and why do you even bother to go if that is all that you are going to do…..seriously.
When you go, take a minute to listen to the stories of the cars that the owners tell. They are as amazing as some of the owners themselves. These folks (women included) can tell you where every bolt and nut came from and what ship it was on when Columbus sailed. LOL
These folks love these old rides and I hope and pray that you grow to love yours as well. Your man will really appreciate the fact that you take the time to go with him and listen to the stories. This is such an adventure that can be enjoyed together if you let it be. Heck you don’t have to have a man…..go by yourself and check out this wonderful world.
What are some of the things that I do at the cruise-in’s you ask?
A lot of times, I take a nap. I curl up in the back seat of that old ride with my pillow and my blanket and I take a good old fashion nap.
Once we were in Mississippi at the Casino. I am not much of a gambler so i told my hubs i would just stay in the car and get my nap and read my book. Well, it was pretty late at night but i felt safe. There were security guards and there we car lovers hanging out in the parking garage so all was well. I had fallen asleep i guess and i felt the car kind of move a tad. I just raised up and i want you to know that this lady threw her drink in the air and ran backwards like i had slapped her. She did not expect me to be in there and i did not expect her to be any where around. I would have apologized for scaring her to death had she not ran off so fast.
Another time we were at a cruise-in in Bryan TX. I had told this little curious 7 or so year old to keep off the running boards several times. After a little while i got tired and again curled up in the back seat. I was sound asleep and i felt the car bounce like it was going down a dirt road at 100 miles and hour. I knew “he was back” . That nosy little 7 yr old that didn’t mind very well was back. I jumped up from that back seat, I holler “get off” as loud as i could and i never saw him again. I bet he never forgets that haggard old lady in the back seat of that red Packard either. (lesson learned ….hahaha)
I have set outside and had some great talks with folks that i never would have met otherwise. I have listened to how the cars were found, how they were restored and who they were in honor of. I have saw tears in their eyes as they wiped the car off with a rag and so lovingly cared for their “baby”.
Yes, I am probably just as much a “motor head” as my husband. I am blessed that we both share a love for these old cars. I hope that you (if you don’t already) seize the moment and enjoy your own journey as well.
The thing about the “cruise-in”s is that you don’t even have to have a car. Just take a chair, set under a tree and watch the action. I bet before you leave you find someone awesome to talk too. I bet that you will be blessed just a little.
Be blessed and let’s get rolling down the road in the old cars……
