This is just an example of what happens when the farm and the old cars collide.

This is especially true when you cross a Mammoth Jack and an Old Ford Truck.

This story starts out like most of our stories; with trucks and critters.

Apple Jack is the family Mammoth Jack (Mule) that has resided at my mom’s for a number of years. He was acquired from a family friend that was selling their farm. Apple Jack has personality, loves pictures and has a total mind of his own. You can’t lead him anywhere but you can take a switch and drive him most places. He guards the place and “sings” to my mom a few times a day. We have no clue how old he is but as my daddy would say, “he is definitely old enough to vote.

Our family loves to get together and we have family gatherings at my mom’s quite often. We live about 30 minutes away from her and it is always fun to drive one of the old treasures over there when we go. This particular day we decided to take the truck we call the “hired killer“. It is a 1950 Ford Truck that we had just finished fixing up. Its a fun little hot rod and we like to drive it around. We had shined it up and we were quite proud of it. The one thing about this truck is that it is “loud”. That gets attention – sometimes good, sometimes “not so good”.

As we were pulling into my mom’s place this truck was loud and the pipes were “racking off” (which us old car folks like sometimes). This however, caused the cows and Apple Jack to run for the hills. They did not like this loud little truck nearly as well as we did and they let it be known. As they bellowed and kicked they ran to the back of the property as fast as they could.

We just laughed and we went on into my moms house and had lunch with the family. We all visited and did what we do, and then it was time to go home.

As we walked out to the truck, everyone was going out to look at our new little “project” and I have to say we were quite proud of it. We loved all the OOOOhhhhh’s and AAAAAhhhh’s, that is until we walked around to the front bumper.

There on the bumper is the largest “deposit” of mammoth jack “stuff” you have ever seen. There was no doubt that it was strategically placed right there on that bumper and it was very evident that Apple Jack had put his mark on the “hired killer”. That darn critter backed right up to that truck and tended to his business while we were in the house. He had to have virtually sat on that hood to get that “stuff” as close as he did to reach right onto that bumper.

We all laughed and laughed and shook our heads. What in the heck can you do at that point. Apple Jack just stood out there in the pasture looking at us with that “gotcha look“. There was no mistaking that he was quite proud of himself.

As we were leaving he began to “sing his song” and let us know that we had invaded his space and his quite little life in Midway TX. He was also letting us know that he had give us “his mark” that day…….darn critter.

Live life to the fullest and don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the ride.
