This is real….you can’t make this stuff up (LOL).

This experience takes place in Biloxi Mississippi at Cruising the Coast 2018. This is our 3rd year in a row to participate and we absolutely love it. We both share an addiction to this event and if you guys love old cars, please come – you will see what we mean. We are in the Texas Hillbilly Truck this year, which is a legend in its own right.

One of the huge events at Cruising the Coast is the annual Block Party in downtown Biloxi. People flock to this event and the earlier you can get there the better. Here we are, sitting in line for this block party “at 5 am”.   I am looking at my little dog and we are both wondering “what in the world have we gotten ourselves into”. Its way to early and there is not enough coffee in the world to get me motivated to do this.

I then look over at the “hubs” and he is in his big old over-sized cowboy hat and he is waving and honking at everyone….it is way too early for all this …..but it gets even better. As we are rounding the corner and getting directed on where to park (along with 3000 other vehicles it seems), the guy directing the traffic realizes that this truck is way to long and big to go down a side street, so he puts us right out in the dead center of the street. Now this is right where all these “high dollar rides” are. Here we are right there with them in our chopped off grain truck. With our mannequins of Willie Nelson, Ella Mae and Grannie (with no head – another story of its own). This is the spot where people get up at 3 am in the morning to fight for and here we are in “all our glory”. We are parked and the “hubs” is thrilled with our spot.

To further set the stage for just where we are: there is a guy that has a TV show (not sure what the name is) and he has a 100K car and all his displays and he directly across from us. I know that he had to be “thrilled” with his neighbor from the country LOL. Country had definitely made it to the block party.

Realizing we will be here a while, I search out a quiet corner by the building under a nice shade tree. This gets me out of the sun and traffic. I know it is going to be a very LONG day. I know that i am going to need a nap and I do love my naps. So I settle in with the dog and we begin to watch all the people and all the attractions that the day has to offer. The “hubs” is in his element, visiting and talking and having a blast. Honestly, I am a people watcher so my spot is just perfect for me. He is definitely the social butterfly at these events.

I must have dozed off – because when I woke up and look over toward the truck and there he is; the “hubs”. Shorts, Shirt, Big Old Hat and he has a TV camera from the local TV station in front of him and they are learning “ALL ABOUT THE TEXAS HILLBILLY“. He is officially going to be on the 5 o’clock news. I am just in shock…..he is going to be FAMOUS.

Fast forward … two more interviews and later that night his phone is blowing up. All our friends have seen him on TV – on TV in Biloxi Mississippi. On the major TV channels (in his shorts and big old cowboy hat). Ladies, I kid you not, he could go to Biloxi and run for mayor and at this point he would win!!

I have laughed my butt off and I have to say I was a bit proud of his accomplishments. This truck was his vision and his creation and we have had so much fun in it. But I can “honestly” say that i am glad I was quite and under the tree and watching from a distance.

The lesson I learned from this experience are:

  • You don’t have to be front and center to have fun
  • It’s OK if someone else gets some attention
  • It’s OK to be proud of your man and what he can do
  • And it is OK, more than OK that we have an experience that we can remember and laugh about and do it together

Be blessed, race your engines and let’s get rolling down the rod of old cars.

Lovingly,

MS O-C-D
