We will let you decide…..
And so the story goes, the Girls were born in Louisiana in the 1930’s.
Their Childhood home was lost due to the great depression, and they had to live in a boarding house in New Orleans.

Childhood home lost in the great depression
The boarding house the family moved into was quite different for them.
Their Dad worked on a shrimp boat in Louisiana, until he was given the chance to work in a place called Conroe, Texas in the booming oil field there. Gertie, Bertie and their Mom followed their dad to this oil field town of wildcatters and scoundrels.
Then one night dad packed up the kids in the dark of night and left for California. The girls later found out that this move was due to the mysterious death of a family friend. Sadly mom stayed behind, the girls often wondered if the two instances were related. They later learned that Mom was a bit of a hussy (if you know what we mean). Later it was learned through some folks that mom had moved to LaGrange and was working at a place called the “Chicken Ranch”.

In California, it was a busy life and the girls lived in the gold mining towns. To pass the time they learned to play cards, and they learned quite well. They did much better when they played together; they had special tricks that they had acquired along the way.
When the girls were able, they gather their things and left for Vegas to try their new skill out in the city that never sleeps. Dad did stay behind in California and the girls promised to be in touch when they had made some money and could send for him. While in Vegas, Gertie married a man at this the little chapel on the outskirts of town. Then Gertie, Bertie and her Gertie’s new man husband left for the Wyoming territory. They were told he had a spread there. Once they arrived, they realized that he did indeed own a spread and there was an abundance of people that loved to play cards on the cattle drives.
Life was good in Wyoming. The girls played a little card game here and there and did a little traveling, especially to Atlantic City. The husband wasn’t much on traveling but the girls would gather their clothes and cards and head out to see the sights and sounds.

Then, unfortunately there was an incident involving a card game and Gertie and Bertie left Wyoming in the dark of night and headed south back toward Louisiana. As the girls headed back toward Louisiana they decided to stop off in Oklahoma. Here, they bought a little boarding house and stay in Oklahoma for a bit, but again the cards and their guest/ladies of the evening caused some issues in town and they were on the road again.

As they are traveling through Texas, the girls were strapped for cash and had a bit of a car issue. They stopped at the Last Frontier to see if there was any “action” going on. The folks there at the Last Frontier let these sweet little ladies stay and rest and get on their feet.
As you can see, Gertie & Bertie are ready for some cards and to earn little cash to move on down the road.
Don’t let their sweet little faces fool you, they are a pair of doozies. LOL
